The name, "Light on the Hill Christian Fellowship", is derived from the images of Matthew 5:14. Although Willimantic does not sit on a physical mountain top, we view it as occupying a place of a physical, cultural and spiritual significance. We believe that God's light, that is His Word working in us and proclaimed by us (Ps.119:130, Rom. 1:16) will be clearly visible to the surrounding areas as it shines from this "hill".
Although Willimantic is not the largest or most prosperous eastern Connecticut city, it is conspicuous in a variety of ways. Many of the main north-south and east-west routes pass through or near Willimantic. A great many commuters who work in other parts of the State live in or near Willimantic. Willimantic is the host area to two State Universities. Through the universities, local radio stations, newspaper, cable TV company, and shopping centers the activities and events of Willimantic reach a much larger number of people than the actual population of the city. Willimantic is a central location in a large group of rural, residential communities and small eastern Connecticut cities to which God has called us.
Thus the name, "Light on the Hill Christian Fellowship", describes us as a partnership of Christians who have determined to "let our light so shine before men" from this "city set on a hill" as to show forth to this entire region the faith, hope, and love that God's given us.
