Prayer on Forgiveness
Father I come to You in Jesus' name, trusting in Your power to forgive. I clearly see the principle of forgiveness laid out for me in Your Word. (Matthew 6:14-15) I know that in my own life people have hurt and offended me, not treating me the way You would have. However, You tell me that when I stand praying, I am to forgive, if I have ought against any, that You, my Father in Heaven, may forgive me of my trespasses. (Mark 11:25) I desire to be merciful, Father, as You are merciful: to judge not, that I should not be judged: to condemn not, that I should not be condemned: and to forgive, that I may be forgiven. I desire to give forgiveness and mercy and expect that they will be given back unto me. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, shall men give forgiveness and mercy to me. (Luke 6:36-38) I realize that with the same measure that I 'dish it out', it shall be 'dished out' to me also.
I'm glad that if I forgive men their trespasses, even up to 490 times a day for the same offense, You will also forgive me of my sins up to 490 times. (Matthew 18:21-22) Father, I desire to have faith in You, and for my prayers to move mountains. (Mark 11:22-24) Therefore, I ask for Your help in forgiving anyone that I have been offended by. By faith in Your power at work in me, I choose of my own free will to release these people from any bitterness or un-forgiveness I may have been holding them in. (Mark 11:25-26) I recognize and accept the duty of forgiving my fellow man. (Luke 17:1-10) In doing so, I am choosing to be kind and tenderhearted; following after and imitating You, for You, for Christ's sake, have forgiven me. (Ephesians 4:32)
Now, Father according to Your Word, I choose to say the same as You do about my sin. (Proverbs 28:13-14) I say that my shortcomings, big and ugly or small and pitiful, stem from a lack of belief in You. If I truly believed in and understood the awesomeness of Your goodness and love available to me, I'd turn to You always. Therefore, instead of continuing in unbelief, I take a step of faith and ask You to forgive me of my sin and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:7-10) I thank You for showing mercy to me and not allowing those things that should come upon me because of my weaknesses to bring destruction into my life. Thank You for the prosperity and happiness you provide for me instead. I love You Father and pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
